Seville's Architecture from the 12th Century to Right Now — in One Walk

Most Seville tours cover one monument and then you're on your own. This walk connects three buildings from three completely different eras of the city, which means by the end of 2.5 hours you have an actual frame for understanding what you're looking at everywhere else.

The route starts at Salvador Church — a former mosque whose Christian conversion in the 17th century produced one of the most architecturally layered buildings in the city, and now houses some of the finest Holy Week sculptures in Andalusia. From there you move through the streets of Arabic Seville to Casa de Pilatos, where the guide explains how 15th-century Spain absorbed Italian Renaissance ideas without abandoning its Moorish inheritance. The tour ends outside Las Setas (the Metropol Parasol), the most controversial piece of contemporary architecture in Seville — your guide has opinions about it.

The Three Stops

Salvador Church (Iglesia del Salvador)A 17th-century church built on the foundations of a 10th-century mosque. The Roman column bases from the original mosque are still visible in the courtyard. Inside, the church houses some of the most celebrated Holy Week pasos (processional sculptures) in Seville — work by Juan Martínez Montañés and others. Your guide explains the artistic tradition behind Semana Santa and what distinguishes the Sevillian school of sacred sculpture.
Arabic Seville — the streets between Salvador and PilatosThe neighbourhood connecting Salvador Church to Casa de Pilatos is the oldest continuously occupied commercial district in Seville. The guide takes you through streets whose layout hasn't changed since the Almohad period, passing April Fair outfitters, Rocío pilgrimage suppliers, and food stalls that have operated in the same locations for generations. This is the part of the tour that doesn't appear on any other itinerary.
Casa de PilatosThe guide covers the palace as a case study in Sevillian architectural synthesis — how the Marquis of Tarifa combined Mudéjar craftsmen, Gothic structure, and Italian Renaissance imports into something that doesn't exist anywhere else. The Roman sculptures, the tilework chronology, and the Garden of Dorne each get full explanations.
Metropol Parasol (Las Setas) — exteriorThe tour ends at the entrance to the Metropol Parasol, Jürgen Mayer's wooden mushroom structure completed in 2011 after a decade of controversy. The guide puts it in context of Seville's complicated relationship with contemporary architecture. The rooftop walkway ($7 extra) can be done independently after the tour ends.
