The Condesa de Lebrija palace is not on the standard Seville circuit. It should be. The ground floor is paved entirely with Roman mosaic tiles — brought from the ruins of Italica, the Roman city north of Seville — and the collection of Roman and Hellenistic sculpture in the first-floor rooms is among the finest in private hands in Spain. The Countess of Lebrija assembled the collection in the early 20th century, at a time when Roman antiquities from Andalusia were leaving the country at pace. She kept them here.
The tour covers Lebrija Palace and Casa de Pilatos in a single 2.5-hour session, with a private guide exclusively for your group. Hotel pickup is included — the guide comes to your door. Admission to both palaces is not included in the tour price, but is arranged and paid at the entrance.
The price is $255 for the whole group — up to 15 people — so for a group of four it works out to $64 per person, and for a group of ten it's $25.50 per person. The ground floor is almost entirely covered in Roman mosaics brought from the ruins of Italica — the city where the Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian were born — in the early 20th century. The Countess who assembled the collection is a significant figure in Sevillian cultural history: she spent three decades buying Roman and Hellenistic pieces that would otherwise have left the country. The first-floor galleries have sculpture, ceramics, and decorative arts from Greek, Roman, and Moorish periods. The palace is ten minutes' walk from Casa de Pilatos.
The Medinaceli palace, covered as the second stop on this tour. Your guide connects the two collections — the Roman sculptures at Pilatos and the Roman mosaics at Lebrija were assembled within decades of each other by aristocratic collectors with similar motivations. Seeing both in one morning gives you a specific insight into how Sevillian noble families in the 15th–20th centuries thought about antiquity and what they were trying to preserve.
